HeatherDB
Download

One binary. No runtime.

HeatherDB is a single self-contained executable — nothing to install alongside it, no dependency beyond libc, nothing to configure before it runs. Take the build for your machine below, or let the install script work out which one that is.

The short way

Let the script pick the build.

macOS · Linux
curl -fsSL https://heatherdb.com/install.sh | sh

Detects OS, architecture and libc, verifies the SHA-256 against the checksum manifest published with the release, and installs to /usr/local/bin — or ~/.local/bin when it cannot escalate. Override with HEATHER_INSTALL_DIR and HEATHER_VERSION.

Windows
irm https://heatherdb.com/install.ps1 | iex

Downloads the x64 zip, verifies its hash, extracts to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Heather and appends that to your user PATH. Reopen the terminal afterwards — PATH changes only reach processes started after the change.

Docker
docker run -p 6380:6380 aphorion/heatherdb:latest

Multi-arch (amd64 and arm64), signed with cosign keyless. Add a named volume or the data directory dies with the container — see getting started.

Piping a script into a shell is a decision, not a default. Both scripts are plain text on this domain — install.sh and install.ps1 — read them first if that is your habit. Neither installs anything but one binary, and neither proceeds past a checksum it cannot verify.

Archives are served from GitHub releases — that is where the artefacts the CI signed actually live, and linking anywhere else would only add a hop that can go stale.

Verify what you downloaded

Every release ships one combined manifest. Check the archive against it before you run it — the install scripts do this for you.

curl -fsSLO https://github.com/aphorion/heatherdb/releases/download/v1.0.0/SHA256SUMS.txt
sha256sum --check SHA256SUMS.txt --ignore-missing
Install it by hand

The archive holds one directory with one binary in it. Nothing else is written to your system.

tar -xzf heather-<version>-<target>.tar.gz
sudo cp heather-<version>-<target>/heather \
  /usr/local/bin/
heather --version

On macOS the builds are not codesigned, so Gatekeeper holds the first run until you clear the quarantine attribute: xattr -d com.apple.quarantine /usr/local/bin/heather.

Or build it yourself

Any platform with a Rust toolchain, 1.88 or newer. This is the path for a target we do not ship, or for changing the engine.

git clone https://github.com/aphorion/heatherdb
cd heather-db
cargo build --release -p heather_server

One binary lands at target/release/heather.
